Symbolic Analysis ~ Pink Floyd Reviewer Ray Horton

Most art music, dance, painting, sculpture, movies, literature has been built on an influence of what has proceeded it. In the case of Dim Side of Mars that influence is Pink Floyd. Through the effective use of symbolism, and a musical score highly reminiscent of Dark Side of the Moon, G. J. Halpern's lyrics warn us of the dangers of lust, greed and society's apathetic values that can prevent us from pursuing an existentially authentic life. The following are interpretive summaries of each of the seven songs on the recording:

Alpha State If you are looking for meaning in life, but you are apathetic, you will be 'Searching hard for nothin'.
Heartbeat Youthful lust can result in hurt so deep that it can't even be fully understood.
Writing on the Wall If you lead a life of 'standardization' based on society's norms, you 'obliterate' any chance for an authentic life.
Greed When you worship your 'Worldly Goods', greed will be at the expense of any possible deeper spiritual reality.
Political Jujitsu Political solutions are deceivingly seductive, but such political games are actually crimes against citizens.
No Reflection 'If we avoid pretension - we can just forget convention' and then we have a chance for self-discovery.
Myopia Viewed from the point of view of a person near death in a nursing home, it would be terrible to have wasted our life pursuing the myopic values of society.
